The Sorrowful Mysteries invite us to walk with Jesus through the final hours of His earthly life—to witness His suffering, His sacrifice, and the depth of His love for each one of us.

As we pray, we do not simply remember events from long ago. We place ourselves beside Jesus and Mary. We contemplate Christ’s suffering and allow His love to touch the places in our own hearts that are wounded, fearful, or hurting.

Ask Our Blessed Mother to take you by the hand and lead you closer to her Son. Mary stood faithfully beside Jesus in His suffering. She teaches us how to remain close to Christ even when we do not understand His plan.

How to Begin:
Offer your Rosary intention.
Take a moment to place your prayers, loved ones, struggles, and intentions into the hands of Jesus through Mary.
Make the Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Pray the Apostles’ Creed:
The Apostles Creed:Â I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father: Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
3 times: Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Fatima Prayer:Â O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.
*Then announce each Sorrowful Mystery and spend a moment quietly contemplating the scene before beginning the decade.

First Sorrowful Mystery
The Agony in the Garden
“My soul is sorrowful even to death.” — Matthew 26:38
Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane and experiences profound anguish as He prepares to take upon Himself the sins of the world.
Imagine Jesus kneeling in the garden. See His sorrow. Feel the weight of what He is about to endure. Yet in the midst of His anguish, Jesus surrenders Himself completely to the Father:
“Not my will, but yours be done.”
As you pray this decade, bring Jesus your own fears, anxieties, and struggles. When you do not know what lies ahead, ask for the grace to trust God.
Pray for: Trust in God’s will and strength in times of fear and uncertainty.

Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Scourging at the Pillar
“Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged.” — John 19:1
Jesus is innocent, yet He willingly suffers terrible pain for love of us.
Look upon Jesus and remember that every wound He endured was an expression of His love. Nothing we have done is beyond the reach of His mercy.
As you pray, bring Him the wounds of your own life—the things you carry, the sins you regret, the hurts you have suffered, and the people who have wounded you.
Ask Jesus to heal what is broken within you and give you the grace to forgive as He forgives.
Pray for: Healing, forgiveness, and freedom from resentment.

Third Sorrowful Mystery
The Crowning with Thorns
“They clothed him in purple and, weaving a crown of thorns, placed it on him.” — Mark 15:17
Jesus, the King of Heaven and Earth, is mocked and crowned with thorns.
The world sees weakness. God reveals love.
As you contemplate Jesus wearing the crown of thorns, think of the times you have felt rejected, humiliated, misunderstood, or forgotten. Give those moments to Christ.
Ask Him to help you seek His approval rather than the approval of the world. May He reign in your heart and teach you true humility.
Pray for: Humility, courage, and freedom from the need for worldly approval.

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross
“And carrying the cross himself he went out to what is called the Place of the Skull.” — John 19:17
Jesus carries the weight of the Cross toward Calvary.
Imagine Mary watching her beloved Son. Imagine Jesus stumbling beneath the weight of the Cross.
Now bring your own crosses before Him.
Perhaps you are carrying grief, illness, loneliness, financial hardship, family difficulties, or a burden known only to God. Do not carry it alone. Place it at the feet of Jesus.
Ask Him for the grace to carry your cross with faith and to remember that suffering united with Christ can become an offering of love.
Pray for: Strength and perseverance for those carrying heavy crosses.

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Crucifixion
“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” — Luke 23:46
Jesus is nailed to the Cross.
Remain here for a moment.
Look upon the Crucified Christ.
This is how deeply God loves you.
Jesus gives everything—His body, His blood, His suffering, His very life—for the salvation of the world.
Beside the Cross stands Mary. She cannot take away her Son’s suffering, but she remains. She stays with Him until the end.
Ask Mary to teach you how to remain close to Jesus in every season of life. When you suffer, when you are afraid, and when you do not understand, may you have the grace to remain beneath the Cross.
Jesus, I give You my life.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Jesus, may Your will be done.
Pray for: The conversion of sinners, the salvation of souls, and the grace of final perseverance.

Fatima Prayer...
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Memorare:Â Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee O Virgin of Virgins and Mother of us all.
To thee do I come. Before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O mother of the word incarnate, despise not my petitions but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
Final Prayer:Â Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
